The perfect thing to do on a bright sunny day is to head to Rancho Los Alamitos. Admire the 19th Century ranch house that houses an interesting museum about local history, then explore the surrounding area. Make sure you stop by the barn and check out the livestock, which is often the highlight for children. You can also stroll through the beautiful garden. The gift shop has interesting things to take back home too. Overall, a historical place with lots of education, along with fun thrown in.
From the Hollywood Freeway the glint off its gold leaf and ceramic tile roof gives away its location. The temple is built in traditional Thai Buddhist architecture. Like a helicopter airlifted one from Bangkok and dropped it in North Hollywood. They hold Thai language and traditional music and dance classes, and year round performances and festivals are open to the public. Every weekend hundreds come to enjoy homemade Thai food with the saffron-robed monks at their open air food court. Many dishes are too authentic for fancy Thai restaurants! When you're trying to escape the glitz of Hollywood, duck into this truly amazing temple for a one of kind Thai experience.
One of the historic structures situated on the premises of the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanical Garden, the Queen Anne Cottage and Coach Barn is considered to be a honeymoon present from Elias Jackson Baldwin to Lillie Bennett, built around 1885. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the Queen Anne abode includes beautiful stained-glass windows and doors of black walnut. The house is famous for having been featured in a scene of Fantasy Island.
The SS Lane Victory is a cargo ship. Earning it's name after being used at the World War II and several other wars, the ship got it's publicity there. Later she was a running museum to the visitors, she currently operates for three one-day trips every year and takes the passenger back to the 1940's. The swing music and the atmosphere is perfect with the buffet lunch offered. The atmosphere is even more stunning when the attacking of the aircraft is re lived. She was also used in several movies, renowned among them is the Titanic.
