Located across from the Lahaina Civic Center, this small beach park is a favorite of islanders who gather in the late afternoon to swim and enjoy the sunsets, or on weekends for family gatherings. Just over eight acres, Wahikuli has many amenities including drinking fountains, barbecue grills, outdoor showers, free parking, restrooms and picnic tables. The park has easy access to a narrow sandy shoreline and water conditions that are perfect for swimming or snorkeling. On weekends, the aroma of barbecue fills the air while the three parking lots are filled with minivans and SUVs that stay all day. - Lottie Tagupa
These backwoods adventures were designed with the horse lover and nature lover in mind. The farm is set back from civilization, so you will need to catch one of the shuttles to and from the restricted property. Several different excursions are available. All of them are between 90 minutes and two hours. Witness a Maui sunset, or have a picnic in one of the most remote regions of the island. The small groups are always led by an experienced guide. Children under 12 must meet with management approval.
The magnificent Hyatt Regency Hotel at Maui presents a high-gloss luau every night. The evening starts with a lei greeting, then moves on to demonstrations of various Hawaiian crafts. The featured show of the night is Drums of the Pacific, a Polynesian extravaganza showcasing several talented musicians and dancers. Enjoy a delicious dinner buffet of such island specialties as Kalua Pig and Ulupalakua Beef. An open bar is included in the price.
In order to entertain Maui's diverse tourist contingent, this company offers SNUBA excursions, Navatek rides and scooter dives to tourists looking for an out-of-the-ordinary activity. SNUBA is a variation on SCUBA that allows guests to descend to many feet below sea level without mastering the technique of the tank dive. Scooter diving is a great adventure, and not too intimidating. On these futuristic vehicles, people can motor—or to be more accurate, putter—along under the sea. Breathing is made easy by an enclosed capsule that covers the head. Traditional SCUBA lessons and boat dives are also offered. Call for pricing and more information.
