Housed in the only remaining Carnegie Library building in Anaheim, this museum deals both with the rich cultural history of Anaheim and of the world. The volunteers who work there value educating the younger generation about their fine city, which was founded in the mid-1850s by German winemakers who wanted to sell their product to citizens of Los Angeles. Established in 1936, Bowers Museum is likely the best all-around museum in Orange County. With funds donated by Charles Bowers, the complex was built in the style of the California Missions and is adorned with murals honoring that motif. Originally focused on local history, the museum has since enlarged its focus to incorporate artifacts from the cultures of Southeast Asia, Oceania, Mexico, and Native America. Several interesting exhibitions are often featured at the museum. This place is a must-visit for those who are passionate about the past.
Yorba-Slaughter Adobe, built in the 1850s, is one of the last few typical-styled houses that replicate the ones that were present during the Mexican governance and was built by Raimundo Yorba. After a few years, the house was then bought by veteran Fenton M. Slaughter and hence the name of Yorba-Slaughter abode came into existence. It is a one storey house and is accessible to the public from Tuesday to Saturday. The museum consists of documents and artifacts that enable a better understanding of the way of life of that particular century and group tours are also provided.
Long Beach Firefighter's Museum is a tribute to firefighting in the city. This museum has an interesting collection of ancient firefighting engines and other vehicles, old technology and equipment, leather buckets, hoses, ladders, and other items that date back to the early 20th century. The museum is run by local firefighters and volunteers who are very friendly and are responsible for maintaining it. The museum is open on Wednesdays and every second Saturday and is definitely worth a visit when in the city.
Drum Barracks is the last remaining original American Civil War era military facility in the Los Angeles area. It is also called as Drum Barracks Civil War Museum and is located in Wilmington section of Los Angeles. Post 1987, it was operated as a Civil War museum and is open to the public. The historic museum got listed at the National Register of Historic Places on February 12, 1971.

The Hathaway Ranch Museum is home to several tools and equipments that were used for farming in ranching back in the 1930's. The large display of tools also includes drilling and mining equipment, that started to be used once oil was found in the region. The Museum is still owned and managed by the Hathaway family, and is an impressive exhibit of the mining history of Los Angeles County. There is also a machine shop within the premises, that displays a range of antique machine tools that ran on flat belts. The property also consists of a Spanish-Mediterranean-style ranch house, where members of the Hathaway family resided.
