Das Museum ist das geistige Produkt von Professor Gustafson und wurde nach der Entdeckung der Schiffe in Tune, Gokstad, Oseberg und Borre errichtet. Der letzet Anbau wurde 1957 hinzugefügt. Sobald man das Museum betritt gilt es am Oseberg Schiff vorbeizugehen um das Zentrum des Museums zu erreichen. Im Zwischengeschoss befinden sich thematische Ausstellungen. Neben dem 900 Jahre alten Schiff gibt es Wikinger Artefakte und eine Grabkammer mit ganzen intakten Skeletten. Zudem gehört der Buchladen zum Museum, im dem Bücher, Karten, Poster, Postkarten, Mitbringsel und Schmuck verkauft wird. Eintrittspreis auf Anfrage.
