Mount Hope Cemetery has a vast, tranquil expanse of burial ground near Mount Hope Avenue. While winters cover the grounds in ice, the gravestones and monuments are shrouded with the calming shadows of lush green trees during summers. Built in 1938, the architectural style of the mausoleums and sepulchres is largely Victorian with Gothic elements. It is the last resting place for some of the eminent personalities like Frederick Douglass, John Jacob Bausch and Blanche Stuart Scott.
Highland Park, one of the most popular parks of Rochester, is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Lake View Cemetery is situated in the Sweden Township, in close proximity to Brockport in Monroe County, New York. It was constructed in 1891 and illustrates the Romanesque Revival style of architecture replete with a chapel, a small dew pond and a fountain. It operates from 7:00a to 3:30p daily and is well-managed by the Superintendent of Highways. It is closed for cremation during the winter, although there is a provision for a winter vault. The Highway Department supervises the upkeep of grounds, burial permits in the crematory, lot sales and much more. The church over the years has gained a lot of historical value to get registered in the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
Saint Mark's and Saint John's Episcopal Church is a landmark in Rochester. It was built in 1928 and features bungalow-style Gothic Revival architecture. The interiors are replete with beautiful stained-glass memorials and murals depicting the Holy Bible. This historic church hosts weekly worship and several events.
Built in 1876, the First Baptist Church of Fairport shows a mix of the Gothic and Late Victorian styles of architecture. The congregation is functional even today and regular services take place at the church. Established as a rural cemetery in 1858, the Machpelah has been expanding ever since. Encompassing an area of 24.7 acres (10.0 hectares), it is the final resting place of 5500 people.
