The Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park makes for an interesting visit when in Los Angeles County. It was established in 1979 and the museum building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum showcases the heritage and culture of aboriginal Native Americans with H. Arden Edwards' collection of artifacts and memorabilia. Also on site are nature trails and several picnic spots.

Some of these include leopards, tigers, jaguars, cougars, Canadian lynx, Bobcat, Margay and Ocelot, among many others. The Cat Center does well to preserve the future of these animals and give them a home where they can breed, as well allow research on all of these 19 species. The institute is run entirely on public funds. For all those who love big wild cats, a visit to The Cat House is a must.

It has a collection of items that have been assembled from the times of the early inhabitants, the Kawaiisu who settled in this region about 1500 years ago. You will come across exhibits like wagons, stuffed animals, fossil findings, clothing, weapons and mining tools. It is managed by the Tehachapi Heritage League.
