Ozo Coffee is the perfect place to unwind with a cup while visiting the busy Pearl Street Mall. There are three other Ozo locations in the city in addition to its 'Roastery' where you can also visit for wholesale purchases. As with most purveyors of fair-trade coffee beans, the proprietors here focus exclusively on how the beans come to market and how they are obtained. Nonetheless, to say they take their coffee seriously is an understatement, with glass beakers, sieves and other mad-scientist tools used to extract the perfect cup, Ozo definitely knows coffee.

Once you are done with the main course, a big portion of chocolate hazelnut cake, or the specially crafted apple tart for two should spice things up a bit! If you are here on a weekend, make sure you get a healthy dose of the brunch menu—the basket of pastries & jams, with fresh-baked scones and sweet breads is unbeatable!
The owner of Mercury Café calls it a community center. The cafe exudes a vague hippie aura and serves as a restaurant, bakery, coffeehouse, dance club and concert hall. It is hard to pinpoint the exact style of this eclectic nightspot, serving up everything from Celtic and Cajun to theater and poetry. Swing and salsa bands are regulars on the second floor, which accommodates 350. The main dining room might feature a concert pianist one evening and a string quartet the next. The dinner menu offers salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes and more.

Located within walking distance of the State Capitol and other city landmarks, this restaurant has built a name for serving excellent vegetarian food. The decor is bare bones simple, and the clientele runs the gamut from heath nut business yuppies to granola hippies. Breakfast, with the amazing Banana Bread French Toast, Breakfast Burrito and numerous scramblers, made the place famous. But lunch draws huge crowds and popular demand finally kept the place open for dinner, which feature tofu creations, pasta, and an excellent veggie burger.

One of the LoHi neighborhood's favorite spots for baked goods has definitely got to be the Wooden Spoon. Every morning a changing repertoire of scones, croissants, Danishes, turnovers, quiches and much more comes out of the oven to fill the vitrines. In addition to freshly baked goods, Wooden Spoon also serves heartier sandwiches and salads with items like Tarragon Chicken Salad, mixed-greens, BLTs, Prosciutto & Brie, etc. Of course, breakfast is served as well, but no matter what time you arrive, a dessert eclair or Boston Cream Pie is a treat at any time of day.
