Cool Discs

Located beside the city bus depot and close to Guildhall Square, this is one of the north west's best independent music stores. It stocks a well-balanced range of CDs, vinyl records and tapes, specializing in obscure-but-listenable dance/hardcore. The shop also contains a great mix of cut-price vintage pop-rock discs. A giant board in the window lists these with prices as low as £4:99. Cool Disc's claim to fame is having cultish singer David Gray do an impromptu gig there. (Note: the other alternative-type CD store in town is Soundsaround.)
