The north course opened in 1924 and is exclusively for members, while the south course has hosted the 1924, 1937, 1961, 1985 and 1996 U.S. Opens as well as the 2008 PGA championships. The clubhouse itself is a replica of George Washington's Mt. Vernon home and is worth visiting.
