The Henry W. Baker House is a fine Italianate structure in Plymouth, Michigan. This house served as the residence of Henry W. Baker, and is declared as a Michigan State Historic Site. This mansion was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
Constructed in 1891 as the Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church, this majestic edifice was occupied by the Motor City Missionary Baptist Church congregation in 1978. The beautiful church building was constructed in Carpenter Gothic stye of architecture, and is a rare example of a wood-frame church from the time. The church actively engages with the community through its ministries as well as events.
This eye-catching structure on Woodward Avenue was constructed in 1929 and originally housed the congregation for the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Though small, the majestic building with Neo-Gothic influences features striking architectural details. Currently known as the Prayer Temple of Love Cathedral, the building is a prominent historic treasure in the city.
One of the major historical buildings that dotted the city's skyline since 1917, Book Tower with its neo classical and renaissance architectural styles is a tall beauty to behold. Soaring at 38 floors, it was at one point the tallest in town. Featuring two wings which were built in different years, this commercial structure is noted for its caryatid sculpture on its facade. Its ornate tower with intrinsic artworks and columns are what makes it stand out. It remained unoccupied since 2009. Currently undergoing restorative work, this beautiful skyscraper is a must for those interested in architecture.
A national historical sight with a majestic structure, Historic Trinity Lutheran Church was built in 1931. If you want to hear the bagpipe and drum corps play outside after services then the best time to visit is during the Freedom Festival. You can avail of the various services provided by the church and also be a part of the various events taking place.
Fondly dubbed the Bath City, Mount Clemens dates back to 1795. Oldest records are that of Christian Clemens surveying the town, who eventually settled in here and gave the city its name. Clemens also built a distillery that helped to build the economy of the city. Known since historic times for its mineral baths, the city was once home to as many as eleven bathhouses, oldest of which was built in 1873. Now operating as a county seat for Macomb County, it boasts of many businesses, eateries and parks in its downtown area. Amongst the famous visitors here were Clark Gable and Mae West, needless to say, this makes for a wonderful place to stay.
