4,357 acres (1,763 hectares) of natural beauty make up Kensington Metropark. Kent Lake is in the center, and offers opportunities for fishing and swimming in the summer. There's also horseback riding, an 18-hole golf course, a nature program, and a working farm for visitors to enjoy. Explore eight miles (13 kilometers) of trails where you can hike, ski cross-country, or bike. Wintertime brings its own diversions with sledding and tobogganing hills. Kensington Metropark does charge a fee for cars, but admission is free if you walk or bike to this lovely park.

Few cities have anything as splendid as this nearly 1000 acre (404.68 hectares) island park. Accessible by the MacArthur Bridge, Belle Isle has been a favorite place for relaxation and recreation, plus it's a great spot to watch the ore freighters gliding down the river. Around the island, there is a beach, a conservatory, formal gardens, an old lighthouse, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, lagoons, picnic areas, and much more. The Scott Fountain, with its imposing gargoyles, provides a great evening light show. Entry to the park itself is free, however there is a fee for vehicles entering the park.

Shepherd's Hollow is an award winning golf course! With 27 holes spread out throughout 350 beautiful acres, you're certain to enjoy the gorgeous wooded surroundings as you play. The course is minimalist, but rather challenging with natural fairways and long greens. Shepherd's Hollow also has a practice center and driving range. After a game visit the plantation-style Club House that has amazing cuisine and overlooks the course.
