Built in 1767, The Chowan County Courthouse is a wonderful specimen of 18th-century Georgian architecture with sloped roofs, tall windows, a centrally positioned clock tower, and arched entrances. Once the seat of the county of Chowan, this is a heritage structure that was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in the year 1970. The courthouse is open to the public for tours.
