Located off Highway 779, the Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area is a large expanse of rolling greens and shimmering waters that enchants visitors with its scenic beauty. While the area is a popular spot for its panoramic lake views, it is also a well-known hot spot for myriad outdoor activities, including fishing, mountain biking, hiking and walking. Come winter, the Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area transforms into a snow-covered expanse for cross-country skiing, replete with groomed and marked trails. An interpretive tour around the park is available, and visitors can also observe several species of birds and animals here.

There is always something happening in William Hawrelak Park; the Edmonton Heritage Festival and the Symphony Under the Sky are held here. When there are no scheduled events or festivals, take a paddle-boat out on the man-made lake or enjoy it as an outdoor skating rink in the winter with heated changing facilities nearby. Spanning over an area of 168.03 acres (68 hectares), the park has good facilities for picnicking and as several well marked trails, ideal for biking, nature walks, and hiking. There's a playground and visitors can also enjoy volleyball here. Cross country skiing is another popular activity at the park.

West Edmonton Mall's World waterpark covers over two hectares (five acres) and incorporates twenty water activities. The water-slides at the World Waterpark are long, there are kids' pools and bungee jumps, and the water is kept at a pleasant 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Sharky, the mall's mascot for this attraction, is available for private functions. Periodic special offers are also offered. On weekdays the park is open from noon to 6 pm, whereas weekend timing varies.
