Located in Villach commune of Feld am See, Afritzer See is a picturesque lake. The lake was divided into two smaller parts due to a rock fall in the adjacent mountain range and are connected to each other by Talwasserscheide. Today the lake is a very popular bathing and fishing area and is also one of the cleanest beaches in the town. Local families are often spotted near the lake for a nice dip during a warm summer day.
Located in the central Alps near Drava valley is the Millstatter See or the Millstatter Lake of Carinthia. This water body is a huge fishing spot and bathing area for families during the war season. Boating and sport fishing is very common apart from the swimming at the shore of the lake. Rich in fish population like zander, carp, tench, pike, roach, rudd and many others, this lake gets its name from Millstatt, the market town in the northern area.
Stift Millstatt is a former monastery of the Benedictine order which was founded in the 11th Century. For hundreds of years it was considered a center for religion and culture in the upper regions of the Carinthian province. Now, only the monastery church is still active while the cloister of the monastery itself has been transformed into a museum. Along with displays of the Benedictine and Jesuit history of the monastery itself, it also has exhibits of artifacts dating back to the Neolithic Age and Bronze Age. There is a beer garden on the grounds of the former monastery where you can get refreshments.
The Weißensee lake is far from the stream of traffic and is fantastic as a quiet recreation area.
Weissensee is a freshwater lake that is very popular in the township for bathing and several activities that take place here during summer and winter months. Four boats and one speedboat are the only water vehicles that operate in the lake and the water body comes under the protected zone of Austria. Located within the Gailtal Alps, it is the largest bathing lake at this height in the entire city and houses fish species such as pike, tench, perch, carp and trout. During winters, the lake freezes completely and many ice skating and skiing tournaments are held at this site.
