With its unassuming little stage having hosted big names over the decades, Hole in the Wall has a longstanding reputation as the city's most storied venues. Today, it is mostly a launching pad for local up-and-comers ranging in number and genre, from 9-piece bluegrass bands to individual singer–songwriters. Although the nature of the crowd itself varies by similarly sudden shifts in performing schedules, the bar's proximity to UT brings in a steady flow of students and associated youngsters, most of whom come in for pitchers of Shiner and Lone Star. This place has won high praise as the place to be for live music! The staff are great and the locals are friendly.
A local favorite, this bar has been relocated for the fourth time in its history. The building was moved during a midnight trek to its current home at 2nd Ave and Brazos. Construction continues and the bar is scheduled to re-open Labor Day weekend. Regardless of location, it is a great stop before heading out on the town or just for sitting outside on a beautiful evening. The Mexican Martini's are a local favorite; however, they do pack a punch.
