Chateau de Commercy is a French Baroque gem in Commercy town. The mansion was funded by Prince of Vaudémont, Charles Henri de Lorraine and built in the year 1708. It was built to the designs of Germain Boffrand who is also credited with the design of Haroué and Lunéville castles. In the later years, the chateau became home to Élisabeth Charlotte d'Orléans.
Spread over an area of 48 square kilometers (18.5 square miles), Lake Der-Chantecoq is Western Europe's largest artificial lake and a popular destination for water sport lovers. On the lake's serene waters, visitors can enjoy a slew of activities including fishing, wind surfing, sailing, jet skiing, water skiing and rowing. Those who prefer staying on land can also enjoy rollerblading, sunbathing and cycling. Bird-watching enthusiasts are in for a treat as the area is known for spotting egrets, white tailed eagles geese, ducks, grebes, loons and cranes that migrate to the lake in spring and autumn.
