Monomoy Light

Along the furthest reaches of the peninsula, Monomoy Light rises from amid the wilderness of its surroundings as a solitary beacon that attracts history buffs looking to explore Chatham's heritage. Measuring 46 feet (14 meters) in height, the lighthouse, as it exists today, dates from 1849 and presents an exterior streaked with red. Hewn from cast iron, the lighthouse is a significant historic landmark, and its scenic environs accentuate its old-world charm. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Monomoy Light makes for a fascinating visit for those interested in Chatham's history.

The Flying Horses Carousel

Since 1884 islanders have enjoyed the beauty of this magnificent carousel. Built by Charles W.F. Dare company, it is the nation's oldest platform carousel still in operation. Acquired by the Preservation Trust in 1986, the carousel is a National Historic Landmark. Children and adults alike may enjoy a ride on this brilliant structure. Rides are reasonably priced and if you catch the brass ring, you ride for free! Video games and refreshments are also available here.

Cape Poge Light

Cape Poge Light, or Cape Pogue Light, is located off Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. A part of Edgartown, this beach provides tourists with myriad opportunities for a relaxing vacation. The Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge offers many tours to explore the island, including a tour of the Cape Poge Lighthouse. The wood tower is built on the northern tip and guides ships sailing into the Edgartown harbor. Every six seconds, the tower flashes a white light that can be seen for 9 miles (14.48 kilometers). Hiking along its many trails or taking leisurely fishing and kayaking trips, visitors have many options to enjoy the pristine surroundings.

Wood End Lighthouse

This lighthouse first started operations in the year 1872. Initially lit using a kerosene lamp, the light house was automated in 1961. Guiding ships even today, this historic structure functions on solar energy in the present day. It has a light house near it and sits on an open land with no other buildings in the area. Listed in the National Register of Historic places, visitors need to go through a short hike to reach this scenic spot.

Old Whaling Church

The Old Whaling Church, named as such because it was built by whaling captains in 1843, is the perfect location for a vineyard wedding. With spectacular views and Greek revival architecture, the Old Whaling Church is a sight to be seen. This old Edgartown gem can accommodate up to 500 guests in the main church and 150 guests in the lower-level Frederick Baylies Room.

Edgartown Harbor Light

One of the many lighthouses on Martha's Vineyard, the Edgartown grounds, managed by the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society, is open to the public. The view from the grounds is breathtaking. The lighthouse, built in 1875 and refurbished in 1985, is an example of Cape Cod style, with three rooms on the first floor and two on the second. It is 45 feet high, made of cast iron, and continues to operate as a navigational aid. The walkway leading to the lighthouse is called the "bridge of sighs" because it is said that long ago when men would leave on sailing trips, their girlfriends and wives would stand on the walkway and look out over the horizon to where their lives had gone.
