A visit to the Hasenburg will give you an authentic taste of an old Swiss pub. The food is traditional Swiss fare and consequently, this restaurant has attained a sort of cult status in Basel. Nothing and we mean nothing in the restaurant has changed in over 40 years. Under mounted antlers, you can enjoy intimate conversations into the early hours or make new friends with fellow drinkers. Favorites include variations on traditional Rosti (a typical Swiss potato dish). The hearty beers on tap complement just about everything.
The Lowenzorn used to have a sign with 'Europe's best brawn' written on it. The sign has gone, but the good wholesome food remains. The restaurant is still known as the 'historical student beer pub' and not without a good reason. The beer certainly flows when the students are around. The bar has a rustic feel, and is decorated with 'Shrove Tuesday' motifs. The garden is peaceful, with a nice atmosphere. In the summer, the large grill is used, and a whole range of meat specialties are added to the menu.
