The speak-easy, bygone vibe is in full-force at this barber shop and neighborhood cocktail bar. Sulky light glows from fixtures out of the 1930s, a massive marble-top counter dominates the interior, and a friendly guiding principle to have patrons well-fed, well-groomed, well-imbibed win the day and night here. The food menu is a bit more contemporary than the aesthetics suggest, with kale salad, bahn mi sandwiches, and vegetarian selections. The cuts, however, are to-the point, and do not get more sophisticated than the “fancy beard trim.” Please note that the bar stays open until the very early morning, while the barber shop closes between 4p and 9p.
When Captain Richard Deane, the last commanding chief, got this structure built in 1906 for his wife, it was near the barracks of the Fort Calgary. It moved to its current location in 1929 after the Grand Trunk Railroad bought it from Fort Calgary. It is said the Deane House is the lone remnant of all the buildings of NWMP in the region. Nestled by the confluence of the Elbow River and Bow River, this historic building has a long history from being a boarding house to an artist gallery and a restaurant. It was closed for a few years and a found a new lease of life after an extensive renovation. Today, Dean House is a contemporary Canadian restaurant with its own personality. The decor is an ode to Captain Deane and it features many distinct rooms, a patios and gardens. Delight in their delectable seasonal fare as you take in the history of this place through its artifacts and decorative elements. The establishment is also a popular venue for private events and weddings. Reservations are recommended.

Don’t mind the facade of this southeast sports bar and restaurant, as it is as homely as Ogden itself, a mix of industrial and residential area. But it’s what they offer (with daily specials and 15 different chicken wings every Wednesday) and the no fuss menus that have people coming in. Mug Shotz is more of a sports bar, complete with live entertainment, huge TV screens for sporting events, dartboards and pool tables. Mug Shotz Sports Bar and Grill is great for parties and can take it up a notch by giving you some privacy should you request it.
