Set in the valleys of western North Carolina, Nantahala National Forest was officially established in 1920. The largest of the four national forests of North Carolina, it lies in the Cherokee County and stretches over a huge expanse of land. Divided in three districts, namely the Highland Ranger District, the Tusquitee Ranger District and the Cheoah Ranger District, this place is maintained by the United States Forest Service. This forest is home to several exotic flora and fauna, apart from the beautiful landscape comprising the Nantahala River and its surrounding area that is replete with beautiful trails meandering through lush green blankets and picturesque waterfalls.

The Hen Wallow Falls with its extension into the Hen Wallow Creek is a magnificent sight to visit. These waterfalls feature a 90-foot drop and this site is frequented by several salamanders. The waterfall is named after the hens that used to wallow in the small pool at the base of the falls. Hen Wallow Falls is situated in between two fully grown, green forests; Hemlock and Rhododendron forests. The famous Gabes Mountain hiking trail and a corresponding campground are located closer to the bottom verge of these falls, which allows hikers to bask in the natural beauty of the area.

Nestled in Pisgah National Forest, Lake Logan Conference Center and Camp Henry was previously known as Lake Logan Episcopal Center. This facility is set on the banks of Lake Logan. They offer space to host Christian retreats, seminars and conferences. In addition to this, it also features several campsites, cabins and facilities for hiking and kayaking.
