A plain and simple eatery just a block from Ala Moana Shopping Center, Million Restaurant is collecting a local following of Korean aficionados and late night diners. The family owned restaurant specializes in yakiniku-style dining, where delicious marinated beef tongue, pork and chicken are ready to throw on the tabletop grill. For those who prefer not to be the chef, a cooked menu is also available. The meals come with all the wonderful side dishes, including Korean potato salad, taegu and three kinds of kim chee. There is a small free parking lot at the rear and one often find a line for lunch.
With two sushi bars, four master sushi chefs, countless types of nigiri sushi and at least 15 kinds of sashimi, it is no wonder that this place is regularly voted best sushi in Honolulu. In addition to sushi, there is a six-page menu of cooked and raw Japanese specialties ranging from broiled fish to Tororo. The drink menu is equally impressive, including several varieties of sake. Also, the combination lunch menus are a real bargain. The entry walls are decorated with photos of visiting celebrities including Michael Jackson and Gene Hackman. The restaurant can be unpleasantly crowded at dinner, while lunch is more comfortable.
This bakery is a local secret that islanders have kept close to their hearts for years. The small diner counter almost always has a line and the food is simple and inexpensive. But ask anyone about the bakery and they will drool at the thought of the cocoa puffs. They are small cream puffs filled with a cocoa pudding and topped with a secret Chantilly frosting that is simply legendary.
