Built in 1770 by Lutheran Palatine Germans, it is one of the oldest of its kind in the Mohawk Valley. The Palatine Church is made up of limestone and is a one story, rectangular shaped building. It features a tower with a gilded bronze top. It was renovated in 2008. The church has been a national historic site since 1973.
As the name suggests, the Herkimer Home State Site was the home of Nicholas Herkimer, a general who lost his life in the Battle of Oriskany. Now transformed into a house museum, the site also features lovely surroundings that are ideal for picnicking and hiking. The facility is open from Memorial Day until Labor Day each year.
Visit the Arkell Museum which showcases the artwork of early American history. People of all ages are welcome to view work depicting the history of Mohawk River Valley which was a significant time in migration history. The museum has guided tours if you want to know more about a painting and its creator. They also host events for children and adults which introduces the public to American history.
