What happens when a former beauty pageant contestant and a former professional Mexican wrestler get together? They open a restaurant called Cyclone Anaya's Mexican Kitchen of course! That was back in the 60s. It closed in the 90s, but their sons revived it and now have three locations throughout Houston. Sure they have items like lobster enchiladas, but why bother with the fancy stuff when you can enjoy the Tex-Mex fare the sons learned from their mother? Start off with the chorizo con queso while waiting for a plate of Betsy’s tamales. Wash it all down with a margarita. Enjoy drink and food specials during 3p-6p Happy Hours. -JoAnn Takasaki

Savor the flavors of the bayou at Brennan's of Houston that specializes in Cajun and Creole cuisine. Reserve the Chef's Table for a private dining experience, or possibly catch a glimpse of a celebrity or two in the main dining room. Live entertainment further enhances the dining experience on weekends. The menu is pricey, but entrées like shrimp remoulade are worth the expense. A bottle of house wine is available and serves as the best accompaniment. Weekend jazz brunches are a popular way to mix food and entertainment.
Located at the Westheimer strip, Sorrento is a casual dining place for Italian cuisine. While the 'piece de resistance' is purely contemporary and innovative, the staff is attentive and cordial. Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio with Arrugula and Shaved Parmesan Cheese and Panzerotti with Stewed Beef and Rosemary Pomodoro Sugarosso are recommended. And if you're still confused with what to choose, the friendly staff will willingly help you out. Large groups can reserve one of the private rooms.
