Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden or the locally known SSR Garden is a botanical garden, founded in 1770 by Pierre Poivre. The highlight of the garden being the huge water lilies, it also features exotic and rare varieties of plants and flowers. You can check-out the garden all by yourself or simply avail the guided tour services. Please note that different admission charges are applicable for foreign nationals.
The construction of the Plaza Theatre began in 1927, after the local residents filed a petition demanding a venue be built that accommodates the 'growing importance' of the city of Rose Hill. Thus, the Plaza Theatre was under way, and after its inauguration in 1933, it has stayed in its place of being a venue of prominence in the cultural scene of the entire island. This is highlighted by the fact that today the theater hosts important cultural events, including the Opera Mauritius. Do call for more information.

Sugar is an important product of Mauritius; an integral ingredient in the cuisine and the culture. At the Aventure du Sucre at Beau Plan in Pamplemousses, you get better acquainted with this seemingly mundane product. This museum is housed inside an old sugar mill, and it still retains some of the rustic charm of the edifice. Inside, the visitors are taken on a tour of the premises and are explained the processes involved in the production of sugar and are given a glimpse into the rich sugar history of the island. There is also a restaurant at this venue, called Le Fangourin, which serves delectable dishes. Located in the quiet town of Morcellement St Andre, this stadium provides an avenue for entertainment for the locals as well as visitors. Soccer is quite a prominent sport in the region, and this is one of the venues where various regional as well as national teams have their matches. So, if you are a soccer fan, then a visit here is recommended.
Located in the district of Plaines Wilhems, Quatre Bornes is a lively little town, which officially came into existence in 1896, when it was declared a 'town' by the then British Governor Harman. With a population of about 75, 967, and covering an area of approximately 7722 square miles, this town has grown to be of much prominence. Today, this town is a great example of the town life of Mauritius, and has various cultural venues, including the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, where one can find a passel of events happening throughout the year. Do visit this inland town and discover what the island has to offer, beside the beaches and resorts.
