Settled along the northward-facing hills of San Diego, Rancho Bernardo is one of the most carefully-planned communities in California. The area's topography is firmly dominated by verdant, lush pastures and charming geological features which shelter a constellation of vibrant communities. The community is spread along the territory that came along with the Rancho San Bernardo Mexican land grant in 1842. The RB Alive Carnival is hosted here every year.
Located north of the military-owned Gator Beach, Coronado Shores Beach is a gorgeous place to visit. This tourist-friendly beach is lined with popular hotels and clubs like Hotel del Coronado and Coronado Shores Beach Club. It a short walk from the luxurious residential area Coronado Shores Condominium. After a long day at the beach, visitors can hop in for quick drink at any of the sea-facing restaurants and enjoy watching the beautiful sunset.
San Diego National Wildlife Refuge is located near the city of Jamul. A serene oasis to get away from the buzz of city life, it makes for a fascinating attraction in the region. Established in 1996, the refuge is home to a variety of flora and fauna that thrive here in their natural habitat of 12,300 acres (4,978 hectares). A splendid network of trails takes visitors through the lush environs, offering opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and wildlife exploration.
