The green-roofed Casa de Machado y Silvas is hard to miss at the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. The old-school rectangular structure dates back to the 1840s. Once owned by the legendary José Manuel Machado, over the years, it has been used as a restaurant, chapel, souvenir shop and chapel.
The old Mason Street Schoolhouse was San Diego’s first public school. Built in 1865, this single-roofed, one room structure humbly served as the county's school for many years. It was taken over by the Old Town San Diego State Historic Park in 2013 and since then it has been operating as a museum.
