The Prairie Sunset Trail is gorgeous and the perfect way to experience nature. The trail is gentle and approximately 12 miles (19 kilometers) long running through open grassy meadows, farmlands, densely forested areas, lakes, and ponds. It's perfect for biking, hiking, bird watching, jogging, and just enjoying the serenity of nature at its best. The trail is suitably named and offers spectacular views at sunset making it a must visit when in the city.
El Wichita Art Museum es uno de los mayores museos de arte de todo Kansas. Fundado en 1935, cuenta con una colección de primera de arte estadounidense. La colección de arte, de aproximadamente 7000 obras que abarcan más de tres siglos, incluye esculturas, pinturas y artes decorativas. Cuenta con obras de artistas ilustres como Mary Cassat, Winslow Homer, y muchos más. Establecido en 1935, el museo cuenta con un área conocida como The Living Room, donde los visitantes pueden probar sus aptitudes creando su propio arte. The Kansas African American Museum is a historical museum, dedicated to the lives, ordeals and experiences of the African-American community in the State of Kansas. The building was first built in 1917 as the Calvary Baptist Church, which was considered to be the cornerstone and an important landmark of Wichita's African-American community. In 1972, the church was relocated and the first National Black Historical Society was set up to safeguard the historical building. In 1993, the building was added to the National Register of Historical Places and by 1997, it was renamed the Kansas African American Museum. This museum is especially renowned for its annual celebrations and events, including the Cranford Village Celebration, Doris Kerr Larkins Brunch and Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
Housed in the iconic Carnegie Library, the Harvey County Historical Museum is located in the heart of Newton, Kansas. Displaying the local history, the county’s culture and heritage, the museum has an extensive collection of artifacts and displays. With both, permanent and temporary exhibits, the museum has preserved over 5000 images from the 19th Century. The facility also organizes various events and programs every now and then. You can also explore the archive library for research and pick up souvenirs from the museum gift shop.
