Igreja de Estói

"Old Medieval Hermitage"

This old medieval hermitage, built in honor of S. Martinho, housed Estói's main church in the 16th Century. This church has three spires and Renaissance-style architecture. After suffering severe damage from the earthquake of 1755, architect Francisco Xavier Fabri oversaw its renovation in the 19th Century, at the request of the patron of the arts and bishop of Algarve, D. Francisco Gomes do Avelar. The exterior imposes a majestic, Neo-Classical design.
