With a majestic dome 46 meters (150 feet) across and 63 meters (206 feet) high, it was the third-largest in Europe during the reign of Prince-Abbot Martin Gerbert in 1781. In 1974, the church was heavily damaged in a fire and was finally restored to its former glory in 1980.

The Titisee is located in the southern part of the Black Forest. Titan, the Roman Emperor, was the inspiration for its name, as well as the spa town that rests on its banks.
