While the main peak of Babadağ rests at 1969 meters (6460 feet), the secondary summits stands at an elevation of 1400 meters (4593 feet) above the sea level, thus proffering some breathtaking views of the valleys and terrains of Oludeniz. The limestone crag is home to dense plantations of Cedrus libani and Acer undulatum, among other species of native flora like cedar and orchids. Located at the foothills of Babadag mountains in the Oludeniz district of Fethiye, is a beautiful valley home to about 80 different species of butterflies. The Butterfly Valley gets its name from photographer and entomologist, Rifat Kilar who was fascinated by the astonishing species of butterflies that live here. Isolated from the outside world by a steep cliff and the sea, the valley escapes most of the pollution and hence has the perfect habitat for natural flora and fauna. The most common species seen here are Jersey Tiger Butterflies known to live in moist and hidden corners of the Mediterranean.
