The building was originally constructed as a Victorian mansion but in 1935 it was given the appearance of a Georgian style country house. Home to the Governor of Maryland, the Government House dates back to 1870. Visitors can explore the public rooms including The Federal Parlor, the State Dining Room and Drawing room with a painting of George Washington. After touring the residence, one can stop by the ornate Victorian fountain in the gardens.
The Gothic Revival style church was erected in 1849. German Lutheran settlers established this Lutheran church. It also featured in the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and has an adjoining cemetery.
