A part of Ryerson University, the Ryerson Image Centre is an excellent photographic gallery as well as a research and education center. The center conducts major research in photography and hosts various workshops, exhibitions, lectures and discussions. This state-of-the-art gallery is open to works of any photographer, be it a budding student photographer or a professional artist. Apart from hosting temporary exhibitions, the gallery is home to a vast archival collection of close to 300,000 prints in photojournalism and fine art. Another of the numerous art groups found in the 401 Building at Richmond Street West, this gallery is one of the few dedicated strictly to the advancement of photography as an art form. In existence since 1979, the not-for-profit space not only offers exhibitions and showings but also provides darkroom and production facilities. Also, workshops, educational programs and tours of various galleries in the city are available for those interested in pursuing a career in photographic art.
Gallery TPW, owned and managed by the Toronto Photographers Workshop, showcases some of the best photography works in the region. Founded as an answer to the dearth of support for the art of photography in Canada, this association concentrates in giving focus to local photographers. It provides a stage for photographers to share their work with the public and thus reach out to the people. The Stephen Bulger Gallery is a contemporary art gallery that displays works of artists from all over the world, as well as local talent.
