Yosso serves the creative best of the local cuisine. As old as 150 years, the restaurant has been famous for its chawanmushi(Japanese preparation of egg custard) since 1866. The cuisine only gets more flavorful and more inventive with the sushi and sashimi, and also tempura. There's also Shippokyu ryori(a fusion of Japanese, Chinese and European recipes). You can also try the Butanokakuni(Chinese stew pork). The restaurant front is traditional Japanese, with red lanterns and ornate wooden panels. The ambiance is relaxed and the service is decent.
Shippoku Hamakatsu is one of the best places in town for Shippoku and Nagasaki cuisines. The influences of Chinese and Japanese cooking styles are reflected in the dishes cooked by Chef Matsuyama. The restaurant has a quiet and elegant look to it and features a low seating arrangement around its round tables. If you are confused, just ask the staff guide you. You can be sure of a pleasant experience.
This restaurant was originally built in 1642. Its present physical appearance is nothing like the original, but still the owners and staff have the conviction that they are carrying on a tradition of excellent Nagasaki cuisine. The primarily wooden interior is simple but extremely refined and elegant. The ornate ceiling with its beautiful artwork may have you gazing up until your neck aches. The cuisine is Japanese, with variations influenced by Chinese and Portuguese. The set menus are elaborate (and expensive), but recommended, costing upwards of JPY10,000 for two, but you will never forget the dining experience. Even the "less expensive" meals run several thousand yen.
The owner of Shikairou, Chin Pin Shun, is the inventor of the now famous Nagasaki Champon. These thick noodles (not the usual ramen ones) are boiled in a broth of vegetables, seafood, pork and chicken bones along with special ingredients. The result is a flavorful, well-balanced dish. The other dish that this eatery is known for is Saraudon (fried Chinese noodles with toppings). Everything is made from local produce and no artificial flavors or additives are used. Besides these two dishes, the restaurant also serves other delicious Chinese dishes.
