This local history museum is known as the Assam State Museum and is a must visit while touring the state of Assam. The museum showcases collections in various genres such as local culture and history, anthropology, and folk art alongside various sculptures made from stone, wood, metal and terracotta. Visit the Epigraphy section which consists of articles having stone and copper inscriptions from the 5th - 18th Centuries. It was established in the year 1940 by the Kamarupa Anusandhan Samiti.

Assam State Zoo, popularly known as the Guwahati Zoo, is among one of the best in the country and sees a steady flow of visitors throughout the year. Covering a total area of 175 hectares (432 acres), this zoo is home to more than 800 animals of more than a hundred species. The entry fee to the Assam State Zoo is very reasonable and the experience of being amidst greenery and numerous wildlife is unmatched. This zoo also features a botanical garden that is home to interesting species of plants.
