Located near the Linzer Stadion and Bauernberg Park, Botanischer Garten is a beautiful oasis of over 10,000 variant plant species. Spread across 4.2 hectares (10.38 acres), it has five greenhouses which include many plants and an impressive collection of cacti and orchids. This lovely landscaped garden also has sculptures by local and regional artists. Opened in 1952, this garden features animal shelters, an open-air stage and cafe. During summers it hosts many cultural events such as dance, music and poetry readings.

The Old Cathedral stands serenely, in all its beauty at the City Hall district. Originally a Jesuit church, the cathedral exemplifies Baroque style architecture and has emerged as an elaborate, spacious edifice with side chapels. Its grandeur is enhanced by the high altar masterpiece, the extravagant pulpit and the grave tomb of Mary Elizabeth. It is certainly a beautiful religious site to visit when in the Austrian city of Linz.

With its splendid French Gothic design and lofty spire, the New Cathedral is a marvelous sight indeed. Although the construction of this massive church began in 1862, it was only completed in 1924. Amidst its many architectural nuances and artistic treasures, the cathedral's stained glass windows are especially noteworthy. Apart from vivid biblical scenes, some of the windows also hold artwork depicting the history of Linz, portraits and vibrant pieces of modern art. This Roman Catholic church continues to serve as a much revered place of worship where all are welcomed with open arms.

Ars Electronica gained international recognition in the year 2009, when Linz was touted as the cultural capital of Europe. Equipped with all the modern facilities, the center plays host to a wide variety of events. There are regular tours for all those inspired by technology, giving them a peek at some very interesting equipment.

Schlossmuseum Linz was formerly a castle, however, now this royal structure has been transformed into a museum. A treasure trove of art, it showcases art styles right from early ages till date. Apart from that, the museum also displays weapons, historic objects and other collections that take you through the bygone eras. It is a must visit, not only for its exhibits but also for its architectural beauty.

Hauptplatz is the main square of Linz and has been renamed several times over the years. This bustling urban square in the Old Town is among the largest of its kind in the continent and dates back to the 13th century. Some of the interesting sights near it are the Neptunbrunnen, Alter Dom (Old Cathedral), Dreifaltigkeitssäule and Altes Rathaus. You will find many restaurants, cafes and bars around this historic square.
