This 17-ton gift serves as a great symbol of close ties between the United States and Korea. It was given to the U.S. by Korea in 1976 as a symbol of friendship. Meant to celebrate the bicentennial of the U.S, the bell also serves to honor the veterans of the Korean War. The huge bell and the pagoda-like structure which supports it are located within the Angels Gate Park and are situated atop a hill overlooking the Port of Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean.
