Covering 250 acres (100 hectares), New York Botanical Garden is a picturesque blend of rocks, waterfalls, hills, rivers, woods, ponds, plants, and of course, flowers. The property, which is a National Historic Landmark, also includes an interactive area for children. Another marvelous attraction is the beautifully restored Enid A. Haupt Conservatory is a Victorian-era greenhouse. Don't forget to visit the NYBG Shop - a store which offers a wide range of goods, from books and garden supplies to jewelry and body products. For those interested in fresh fruits and vegetables, the garden also hosts a seasonal farmer's market.
Theodore Roosevelt has the distinction of being the only president born in New York City. His brownstone residence near Gramercy Park has been restored to reflect his early life from 1858 to 1862. The house was demolished in 1916, but rebuilt later with the help of Roosevelt's sisters. Almost half the furnishings in the museum come from the original structure. The National Park Service oversees the administration of the site, and there is a 40-minute tour every hour on the hour and a gallery.

Located in The Staten Island Botanical Garden, this garden was designed by the Landscape Architecture Corporation of China and has a collection of beautiful pavilions, walkways and courtyards. Scholar gardens are a concept unique to the Ming and Qing dynasties around 200 years back. A scholar or administrator belonging to the royal court would design these enclosed gardens. Open to visitors from April until November, the Bailey Arboretum offers up a world of color during that time: daffodils kick off the season, followed by flowering trees and a variety of annuals and perennials all through the summer. This arboretum has a particularly wonderful collection of conifers, and features a sensory garden for the physically challenged. Many events are hosted here, along with guided walks and other educational opportunities. No entrance fee for children 16 and under; $3 for adults.
The Feltville Historic District is a monumental and significant part of the Watchung Reservation in Berkley Heights, Union County in New Jersey. It comprises of eight houses, a church, a carriage house and a general house. The district was built and developed from 1825 to 1882. Over the years, the area has successfully evolved as not just a mill town and a farming community, but also as a summer recreational resort. A distinctive highlight of the district is the rumour about three ghosts living here. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
