French Louie

French Louie offers minimalist interiors where the focus is on the gourmet food and wine. It has an elongated dining room with stark white walls, one of which features wall art depicting conifers. Guests can start their meal with appetizers such as oysters, smoked sardines and lobster cocktail. This is followed by entrees like sugar snap pea salad, a blend of peas, avocados, and basil, and mains such as lamb Navarin with baby turnips. The desserts include lime meringue tart and profiteroles served with pistachio ice cream. In the traditional French style, the meal ends with cheese from regions like Pyrénées and Normandy, accompanied by a selection of cognacs and sherries.

Yuca Bar

Located across the street from Tompkins Square Park, Yuca Bar is a superb pan-Latin restaurant. The bar offers a happy-hour everyday and it's a great place for a drink after a day hanging out in the park. Take a seat by the window and people watch while you drink handcrafted cocktails, wines or Sangria. If you are here to eat exclusively, the menu features dishes from Brazil, Mexico, Cuba and elsewhere in the Spanish speaking world.

Parisi Bakery

One of the best bakeries in the city hands down, Parisi has been in business for more than a century, keeping New Yorkers happy with old-world recipes since 1903. The bread is eaten throughout the city as Parisi is considered to be the go-to bakery for many restaurants. So if the menu says Parisi bread, you know you have some quality product. In addition to quality bread, the deli here serves some superb sandwiches. Also, if you can't make it to this location, the family has another at 290 Elizabeth Street.

Souvlaki GR

Souvlaki GR brings a taste of Greece, and more specifically, Mykonos, to New York City's Lower East Side. The small, quaint restaurant serves the Greek version of one of their most popular fast foods, the souvlaki. If you have never had one, it's made from combining grilled meat with warm pita and tzatziki sauce. Simple, effective and delicious, add a glass of wine, and it makes for the perfect lunch. Additionally, if you can't visit this location, there is another one in Midtown.

Tamashii Ramen

The word 'Tamashii' means spirit or soul in Japanese, and whatever it is they're doing in the kitchen, it seems to fit this restaurant. Located in Astoria, the ramen house specializes in these thin Soba or Udon noodles which are cooked perfectly and then served in a savory, Umami-filled broth. Additionally, guests can also order Donburi, Curry Rice, Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) and other traditional Izakaya dishes from Japan, but most come for the ramen. One of the best things about this place is the price of menu items, combined with the expert ramen preparation, it is undoubtedly one of the best places for ramen in Astoria.

2nd City NYC

Canadian-born chef Jordan Andino follows his family's Philippine heritage and brings the flavors from that nation's kitchen to the diners of the West Village. However, Jordan's dishes aren't your typical Filipino dishes, here he fuses them with a Californian-Mexican twist. For instance, there is a Poke dish, a burrito made with soy glazed Adobo chicken, short rib tacos and other items that you would consider to be more Californian than Filipino. Nonetheless, the food is magic and even though the place is small, the take-out window is perfect for grabbing a quick bite in the busy city.
