A haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, the Weetamoo Woods & Pardon Gray Preserve are amongst Tiverton’s premier attractions. The sprawling verdant lands here are riddled with scenic trails, rugged pathways and burbling brooks. Teeming with oak-hollys, the Weetamoo Woods welcome a variety of birds such as bobolinks, eastern meadowlarks and savannah sparrows, making it an ideal destination for bird watchers. The Pardon Gray Preserve is in close proximity. Here visitors are greeted by an active vernal pool, followed by a pleasant Cemetery Trail, which leads to the cemetery of the Pardon Gray and family. Swan Point was established in 1846 as one of the first garden cemeteries of its kind in the United States. The cemetery allows visitors in to the mausoleum and Columbarium (a place for funerary urns) and it has interred many important locals. Some of the deceased include Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, Civil War Generals, state governors and the famous horror author H.P. Lovecraft. The massive estate combines historical architecture and interesting sculpture among the flora and fauna near the Seekonk River. It truly is a place of tranquil beauty.
