The War Memorial & Performing Arts Center is a series of cultural venues that make up the bulk of the Civic Center's events. The center is comprised of such architectural gems as the Veterans Building, the War Memorial Opera House, Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall and Harold L. Zellerbach Rehearsal Hall. The Opera House is home to the San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Opera, whereas the Veterans Building houses both the Herbst Theatre and Green Room. Check the website for a list of each venue's upcoming events.
The Taube Atrium Theater is nestled inside the opulent building of San Francisco War Memorial. The theater was named after California Businessman, philanthropist and San Francisco Opera Board Member Tad Taube and his wife Dianne. Inaugurated in 2016, the space is painted in a light grey tone with carved walls and a hazy, circular skylight on the ceiling. With minimalist architecture and a distinct grey theme, the place has a calm vibe. Equipped with modern sound and light systems, it is a perfect blend of contemporary and traditional. Since it is a flexible space, it is used for a variety of smaller concerts and operas.
Decked out in ivory and gold leaf ceilings, chandeliers, glass doors and a built in wet-bar, the Green Room a former World War I veterans lounge holds lectures, large receptions and concerts. It's also used as a popular site for shooting movies, dinner receptions and fashion photography.
