Courthouse Butte

Courthouse Butte is a gigantic mound of sedimented rock, forming one of the major landmarks of the city. Resting in the Yavapai County, this rock has an altitude of 5,454 feet (1662.37 meters), creating a picturesque hiking trail. Courthouse Butte is one landmark, which intrigues not only ardent geologists with its Permian Supai formation, but also adventurous hikers, who love the scenic hiking spot.

Cathedral Rock

Dominating the outskirts of Sedona with its impressive visage, Cathedral Rock is one of the most recognized sandstone formations among the red rocks that define the city's landscape. Sedona Airport Vortex is a one of the major vortexes in the city. A Vortex is a spot wherein one can notice a whirlpool, creating a high level of wind energy in the surroundings. At this side, the energy is so high that even the tree trunks have twisted, creating patterns, that are unique and interesting. The spot is a great hiking place, from where you can overlook the city, giving you an enthralling experience. Chapel of the Holy Cross

Designed by a Frank Lloyd Wright student, Marguerite Brunswig Staude, the chapel was built in 1956 and rises 200 feet from the ground between two large red rock formations. One of the most distinctive features is a 90-foot cross, which can be seen from the ground along State Route 179. A massive stained glass window turns the chapel's interior into a kaleidoscope of color at certain times of the day. No services are held here, but it provides an ideal setting for spiritual reflection and prayer as well as incredible views of the Red Rocks. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Airport Mesa

A popular site in Sedona, Airport Mesa is situated along the Table Top Mountain. This spot is also known to have high levels of healing energy, as it is one of the few vortexes dotting the city. The trail looping around Airport Mesa is quite picturesque, enabling visitors to admire the surrounding scenery while focusing on their introspection and meditative practices. Sedona features several landmarks that have effortlessly contributed to its popularity among hikers and adventure seekers, and Airport Mesa is one of the most well-known ones among them. Montezuma Well

Created by underground springs, this limestone sinkhole near Montezuma's Castle was once a large underground cavern. Now a natural well surrounded by Indian cliff dwellings, it is home to plant and animal life found nowhere else in the world. Warm underground springs maintain an unusually stable habitat in the well. Prehistoric farmers utilized this well for crop irrigation. Note that the address given above is for Montezuma's Castle; the well is located northeast of the castle. The 1/3-mile walkway is not recommended for wheelchairs.
