It may seem unreal that a site can provide a wide variety of habitat and wildlife. But River Arrow Nature Reserve in Alcester makes it happen. Visitors can explore the wide range of habitats including pond, river, grassland and woodland and also take long walks on the river bank. There is a voluntary group called The Friends of the River Arrow Nature Reserve group which was formed in 2006 and takes care of the day to day maintenance of the reserve, undertakes small projects and promotes the reserve in the wider community. It is also home to various species like Small Teasel, Chub, Pike, Kingfisher, Slow-worm, Moorhen, Grey Wagtail, Small Teasel, Purple-loosestrife and Grass Snake.
Overlooking the Black Mountains and Long Mynd, Dover's Hill was the place where the English Olympic Games began in 1612. There is a monument here that was built to commemorate Robert Dover and the hill serves as a host to the Cotswold Olimpicks, which is held annually.
