Cosanti

Cosanti, in Scottsdale, Arizona, is an architectural haven envisioned by Italian architect Paolo Soleri in 1956. This historic site showcases Soleri's innovative ideas on urban planning and sustainable design. The unique concrete structures and bronze wind bells created on-site against the backdrop of the serene desert setting are truly a sight to behold. It stands as a tribute to Soleri's dedication to harmonizing human living with the natural environment. The building, an architectural wonder in itself, is a designated Arizona Historic Site making it a must-visit attraction in Scottsdale.

Pinnacle Peak Park

Indulge in a city escape and discover the breathtaking beauty of the sun-drenched Sonoran Desert, characterized by striking peaks and distinctive wildlife. Pinnacle Peak Park stands as an ideal hiking spot for both adventure seekers and tourists in search of thrills. Take in the unparalleled and magnificent views of the gorge from the summit. The park offers essential amenities such as restrooms, picnic tables, a parking area, a drinking fountain, and a ramada for added convenience, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable outdoor experience.

Taliesin West

Located in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, this National Historic Landmark was the former winter home and school of the famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He had been visiting Arizona for years to escape the harsh winters due to his health. Subsequently, during his visits, he felt that Arizona needed its architecture. So, in between these visits, he purchased the land for a paltry sum and then began construction, attracting students. The structure today is the main center of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and is open for tours.

Desert Botanical Garden

The Desert Botanical Garden was opened in 1939 to preserve the area's pristine desert environment. Today, the garden helps save endangered plants, with the focus still on native flora and a special emphasis on succulents. The cactus collection is world-renowned and between March through May, the seasonal blooms are spectacular. The garden hosts several events throughout the year, some of which include the popular 'Butterfly Habitat' during the spring and the 'Luminarias' during the holiday season. If you come during the summer months, don't forget your hat and sunscreen.

Phoenix Zoo

The Phoenix Zoo offers a plethora of activities for family recreation. Sprawling over 125 acres (50 hectares), this privately owned leisure facility is a must-visit when in the Valley. It is home to over 1,300 exotic species including lions, giraffes, baboons and zebras, making it one of the country's largest zoos. Explore the verdant labyrinth of the Forest of Uco, take a hike along the African Trail and indulge in an immersive exploration of the Harmony Farm. Also, the interactive programs on offer are both educational and entertaining.

Arizona Science Center

The Arizona Science Center features the futuristic architecture of Antoine Predock and aims to turn science into something fun for kids. Permanent exhibits include Evans Family Skycycle, Forces of Nature, Get Charged Up, My Digital World and Solarville. Take in the clear night sky or the fantastic laser light show under the dome of the Dorrance Planetarium or if that doesn't work for you, watch a film in the Irene P. Flinn Theater with its five-story-high IMAX screen. It's not all for kids though as the many interactive exhibits have grown-ups asking questions too. Drop by for a fun, family day out.
