"Museum for a Lobby"

The Sir Howard Douglas Hall, popularly called the Old Arts Building, is located in the picturesque campus of University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Established in 1827, it is the oldest surviving, still functional university building in the country. Named after the British officer Sir Howard Douglas, the building is a fine example of masonry structure overlooking the Saint John River. Its lobby features many interesting artifacts and documents that highlight the history of the institute. Designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1951, the Old Arts Hall makes for an interesting visit.
