The Botanischer Garten der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg is a part of the Hardern in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district of Germany. It was created by the University of Freiburg in 1620 as a space for teaching and research, alongside a hospital that specialized in the anatomical study. The Botanical Garden was one of the first in Germany, but suffered much destruction during the Thirty Years' War. The garden was then relocated and resuscitated at Dreisam, before later being moved to Herdern. Researches at the botanical garden grow over 8,000 species of plants and study flora fossils from the Carboniferous period.
