Get to know more about the local aviation industry at the Forth Worth Aviation Museum. Earlier known as the Veterans Memorial Air Park, the museum boasts of a collection of fighter air crafts such as the A-12 Avenger, F-8 Crusader, O-2 Skymaster and many more. Two museums are housed in the Fort Worth Aviation Museum such as the B-36 Peacemaker Museum and the Forward Air Controller's Museum. You can also participate in the number of activities that are hosted by the association to get a closer look at the aviation industry.
It took seven years for world-renowned wildlife sculptor Robert Glen to complete this larger-than-life sized herd of wild mustangs. Since its installation in 1984, the Mustangs of Las Colinas have been among the most photographed and visited sites in North Texas. Known as the largest equestrian sculpture in the world, the mustangs are a breathtaking sight honoring both the heritage and spirit of Texas. Informative films on actual mustangs as well as the creation of the sculpture are available for viewing. Admission is free.
Traveling through Fort Worth near downtown and the cultural district, Trinity Park winds along the river of the same name. Shakespeare's plays are presented in an amphitheater just off Seventh Street in a large area amid trees and slopes. The Fort Worth Botanic Garden is opposite the University Drive, a few blocks north of I-30. The trails that span the entire park have played host to annual events such as the American Heart Walk and Mayfest. The paved multi-use hiking/biking trail serves joggers, skaters and runners. There are many playgrounds, shelters, picnic areas and restrooms scattered throughout.
Located north of Six Flags on Green Oaks Boulevard in Arlington, this park offers something for everyone. There are areas for hiking, biking and inline skating. Four miles of paved trails wind in and out of the playground and greenbelt areas of this 958-acre (388-hectare) park. Eventually, Arlington hopes to connect this park to Dallas and Fort Worth via the Trinity River trail. Each Saturday, the River Legacy Park sponsors a guided trail hike. The River Legacy Living Science Center gives presentations on nature to promote ecological appreciation.
The centerpiece of this fascinating collection of antique warbirds is the last remaining B-29 that still takes flight. Just north of the Stock Yards, the Vintage Flying Museum features 20 different aircraft's that date from the 1930s to as late as the 1960s. Get up close and personal with these rare artifacts as you learn the ins and outs of aviation from the knowledgeable museum docents. Tucked away in a hanger at the Meacham Airport, the museum is home to the Commemorative Air Force B-29/B-24 Squadron where these classic aircraft's are maintained, preserved, and restored.
Built in 1970, the Japanese Garden is a part of Fort Worth Botanic Gardens and is spread across 7.5 acre. Much of the beautiful trees and plants of the garden were brought from the city of Nagaoka, Japan. Other attractions inside the garden include the wooden bridge, meditation garden, pagoda and a viewing deck. However, the most popular attraction inside the Japanese Garden is the pond where you can feed food palettes to number of exotic Koi fishes. Besides this, the garden is also host to concerts during the weekends as well as the annual Spring Festival and Fall Festival that celebrate Japanese art and culture. Call for more information.
