The Alpsee is situated in the quaint Bavarian mountainside, near the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. The highest elevated castle in the country, Falkenstein Castle and its ruins are located at a height of 1277 meters (4190 feet) in the Bavarian Alps. Built during the 13th Century and destroyed by the 17th Century, the castle was then purchased by King Ludwig II In 1883. He set into motion an elaborate plan to rebuild the castle under the guidance of the architect Christian Jank but the project fell through upon the King's death three years later. A beautiful mountain refuge built by King Ludwig II in the 19th Century, Königshaus am Schachen reflects his interest in oriental culture, particularly Turkish culture. The large hall is opulently decorated in reds, golds and oranges with beautiful Turkish textiles, divans, and an indoor fountain which contrasts with the surprising simplicity of the Swiss chalet. The Königshaus am Schachen is accessible only via foot or mountain bike, and avid hikers traverse this beautiful trek to witness the unique site. Guided tours of the building are available through the day. The nearby botanical gardens, which feature beautiful Alpine flora and fauna, are also worth visiting.
Reaching to a height of 2592 meters (8504 foot) above sea level, the Hochvogel is a remarkable mountain that is popular with avid mountaineers. It is located at the international border of Germany and Austria, between the peaks of the Allgäu Alps. There are several marked trails leading to the top of the summit. However, the journey can be arduous due to the rough terrain. The peak was first ascended by Trobitius in 1832.
Found at the foot of Zugspitze massif, Badersee is a small mountain lake named after its former owners the Bader family. Characterized by its emerald green waters, spectacular views of Zugspitze and Waxenstein can be enjoyed from here.
At an elevation of 1635 meters (4364 feet), the Sorgschrogen is a mountain in the Bavarian range of the Allgau Alps in Germany. There are hiking trails from the Austrian Jungholz, a steep rocky climb, and from Unterjock, the tougher trail of the two: a partially secured path that can only be risked in summer by experienced hikers. The mountain has a lower summit called Zinken at 1613 meters (5292 feet), which is also marked by a summit cross.
Frauensee is located in Tyrol in Austria, at an elevation of 972 meters (3189 feet) in the Reutte District of the Genhrenspitze municipality. The lake covers an area of one hectare (2.5 acres) in the Tannheimer mountains. There is a trail up to the lake from Lechaschau which has a motor road. It is used as a swimming lake during summers as it conditions a pleasant temperature.
