La Befana Giocattoli has been selling amazing, interactive toys since 1926. The store has got some really nice games, modelling sets, railway modelling games, science games, and so much more. The store is great for all ages to pick something, so even if you feel you're too old for it, you're going to end up feeling otherwise once inside. Take your little ones for sure-they're going to have a great time with the merchandise.
Intended as an arched breakwater to protect the houses from the sea (the name Ripa - bank- is in fact a contracted form of Ripa Maris), the road was built in 1133-34, on the strength of a decree by the Advisers to the Republic who ordained the height, measurements, type of roofing and materials to be used. After the gradual enclosing of the port, which considerably reduced the possibility of sea damage, the porticoed walkway became a real market area, which is constantly used, flanked by almost a kilometre of picturesque boutiques. Over the centuries, the 'Palazzata' of the Ripa has become a symbol of strength and identity of the Genovese people to all those who arrive here by sea. Sottoripa has retained its atmosphere of a historic market with goods imported from all over the world, so that you can buy anything from an imperial duck, sharks fins, Chinese wine, vine leaves, olives and ouzo from Greece, lentils from Egypt and cous-cous from North Africa.
This super patisserie has a beautiful period setting. It is at the ground floor corner of one of the sixteenth century buildings on Via Garibaldi. They sell bombonieres, pastries and cakes, all of which continue the Renaissance beauty of the surroundings. There are always all sorts of sweets and patisseries available. It's a good idea to order cakes. We recommend the flaky pastry jam tart with pastry cream and fruit. It seems like it has jumped out of a painting of Van Dyck just thanks to the way it looks. Don't even ask about the taste!
