Established in 1938, this is a charming village of small specialty shops and restaurants along a winding road off Highway 17 in a park-like setting of oak trees and azaleas. The attraction is locally made jewelry, clothing, wood carvings, Christmas ornaments and other items for the home or as gifts. An historic landmark, visitors can stroll the myriad of paths from store to store to discover what treasures lie within. Some of these include Pawley's Island Wear, Carolina Gourmet, Island Dogs, the Original Hammock Shop, Lulu's Dog Boutique and Roz' Rice Mill Cafe with patio dining. Shoppers can relax on shaded rocking chairs and benches or dine on gourmet hot dogs between purchases. The Original Hammock Shop, for example, has been creating handmade cotton rope hammocks since 1889. Free parking is where you can find it off-road, but it's not difficult. The shops are closed New Year's, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas days.
