Hotel Sint-Jorishof (Cour Saint-Georges)
"The oldest hostel in Europe"
The history of Court Saint-Georges dates back to 1228. It is claimed to be the oldest hostel in Europe.
This building used to be the crossbowmen's guild hall. Later on, in the 15th century it hosted sessions of then Dutch parliament. In the 18th century, two mansions were annexed to the hotel: the classical De Groote Scaec and the House Serlippens, which is a masterpiece of rococo. Throughout the centuries, many famous guests have stayed in this hostel. To name but two of them - the more notorious ones: Emperor Charles and Napoleon had a good night's sleep here.
The hotel's perfect location at the Botermarkt, in one of Ghent's most lively neighbourhoods, is an extra asset.
